In the late fifties, I was a young gay man serving in her Majesties
I must say it was great. I was surrounded by sexy looking guys all
in their late teens and early twenties, cut off for much of the time from
women and with hormones raging in their bodies.
We lived close to each other, pushed up against each other in the
back of lorries, sharing communal showers, eating at the same tables and
sleeping in dormitories with less than three feet between the beds.
Of course every night, I crept out of my bed into one of the straight
guy's bed and without even waking him had fabulous sex with him. Many a
guy woke in the morning feeling a little sore or with the hair on his stomach
a little matted together wondering what had happened.
Showers were even better. If a guy so much as turned his back on
me, I was in there so fast he hardly knew what had happened. Crowded vehicles
were great as well, I managed to kiss so many guys without anyone else
noticing and even the guy being kissed thought he must have imagined it.
I got a good report from the Commanding Officer when I left because
obviously not only had I done my work well, he had screwed me every night
as had the Warrant Officer and all but one of the Corporals who was also
gay and didn't fancy me with so many straight guys to choose from.
What a load of old rubbish, straight from the vivid imagination of
a cheap gay novelist, or a member of the Military establishment.
In reality, I spend years being scared stiff of being found out even
though my activities were virtually nil while some of my fellow servicemen
were screwing every local girl they could find and leaving behind more
than one child.
Now the European Court has told the British Government, a Socialist
British Government, to end this nonsense of discrimination against gay
men serving in the Forces if they wish to do so.
Why doesn't our Leader stand up and tell the Military Morons to shut
up or get out of the Forces and go and run a pub in the middle of nowhere
where they can spout their drivel to the local yokels. The argument is
over. Gays must be allowed to serve. Just as changing the licensing laws
wasn't the end of civilization, nor was opening shops on Sundays, accepting
gays into the Forces will have no negative effects whatsoever.
Let's have a bit of leadership on this one. The Generals and Admirals
are OUR servants aren't they ? They do as we tell them, don't they?. Or
have I got it wrong and here in the United Kingdom, we too live under a
Military Junta all be it one which hides it's face behind a civilian.
