The Pink Past.
Hanki Panki
One of the sillier fashions of the
past which seems now to have died out completely was the wearing of hankerchieves
in the left or right back pocket. Keys were also worn on the left or right
to signal active or passive and at one stage even minature teddy bears
poked their sweet little faces out of left or right back pockets to signify
guys who wanted to be cuddled from those who wanted to cuddle.
Today we are threatened with electronic
gadgets into which we programme our sexual tastes and if another man carrying
the same gadget is nearby whose tastes match our own, both gadgets
vibrate like crazy.
The wearing of hankies was adopted like
all gay fashions by straight guys especially black guys. Of course they
didn't always appreciate the meaning of the colours or the implications
of left and right display so problems could arise.
I managed an amusement arcade for a
short time in the eighties and had trouble with one seventeen year old
black guy. He was in the habit of wearing a green hankie in his back left
hand pocket and when I pointed out that this mean't he was a gay rent boy
and threatened to tell his mates, I didn't get any more trouble.
Of course it could be he wasn't as daft
as I thought
So just for the record here is the code.
Who know's it could catch on again
